"Michael Mell": Be More Chill

"I think there are two types of artists: the ones who do it for themselves; and those who do it for others. I've always striven to be the latter."

-George Salazar

(DC Metro Theater Arts Interview)

Who is George Salazar?

George Salazar first entered into musical theater as a teenager, when he was cast as "Seymour Krelborn" in his high school's production of Little Shop of Horrors. The role permanently cemented his interest in musical theater, which he then pursued at the University of Florida. After college, Salazar moved to New York City, where he lent his talents to several Broadway and Off-Broadway productions. Salazar is most famous for his role as "Michael Mell," a nerdy, socially-awkward teen in the breakout hit, Be More Chill. Salazar's performance of his character's iconic ballad, "Michael in the Bathroom," has skyrocketed the actor to star status, garnering a massive fan base for Salazar, the character, and the show. Although Be More Chill began its run Off-Broadway, the production is opening on the Broadway stage this month, where Salazar will once again reprise his role as Michael.
